# API

Build integrations with Meet Alto's workspace-bound HTTP API.

Use the Meet Alto API to read workspace information and perform available actions from your own server or scripts.

{% hint style="info" %}
The API is in beta. API-key availability can vary by workspace. If **Manage API keys** says keys are unavailable, [contact us](mailto:hey@meetalto.ai). You can also [connect an AI app through MCP](/mcp/quickstart.md).
{% endhint %}

## Start here

1. [Make your first API request](/api/quickstart.md).
2. [Understand authentication and permissions](/api/authentication.md).
3. [Handle pagination, limits and retries](/api/requests.md).

Requests use `https://app.meetalto.ai` with paths beginning `/api/v1/`. Send your credential in the `Authorization: Bearer` header.

## Find an operation

The endpoint pages in this navigation describe the documented release. You can also [download the OpenAPI specification](https://openapi.gitbook.com/o/XSVpcCqQwmDIpdUAIFEz/spec/meet-alto-v1.json).

For the operations available to your particular connection, call `GET /api/v1/operations` with the same credential. Follow `data.next_cursor` until no cursor is returned. The authenticated `GET /api/v1/openapi.json` returns a specification filtered to the connection's current permissions and rollout.

Listing an operation does not guarantee that every resource or action is allowed. Workspace role, plan, account state and provider rules are checked when the operation runs.

## API and MCP

Both interfaces use the same operation contracts. HTTP operations have a method and path; MCP exposes named tools. For example, `GET /api/v1/workspace` corresponds to the `get_workspace` tool.

Use the [MCP tool reference](/mcp/reference.md) when building an AI-assisted workflow. There is no separate Meet Alto SDK required for the HTTP examples in these guides.
