# Connect your AI assistant

Connect an AI app to Meet Alto and verify it with a read-only request.

MCP lets your AI app use Meet Alto tools during a conversation. Connect once, confirm your workspace with a read, and then choose a task.

{% hint style="info" %}
Meet Alto MCP is in beta. Your AI app must support remote MCP over Streamable HTTP and OAuth sign-in. Its plan and your organization's policies may affect whether custom connections are available.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

You need a Meet Alto account with access to the intended workspace and permission to add a connection in your AI app. You do not need to paste an API key into the conversation.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Choose your AI app

In Meet Alto, open **Settings → Integrations → Manage MCP**. Choose your AI app and follow its setup instructions. Use the [Claude walkthrough](/mcp/claude.md) or [choose another AI app](/mcp/clients.md) for detailed steps.

The production server URL is:

```
https://app.meetalto.ai/mcp
```

For another app, follow its own remote MCP configuration format. Setup instructions in Meet Alto do not mean every app and version has been tested.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Sign in and choose your workspace

Complete the browser sign-in opened by your AI app. Select the intended Meet Alto workspace and review the permissions before approving. Return to your AI app and enable Meet Alto for the conversation if required.

Initial sign-in can request write, generation and publishing permissions as well as reads. Approve only access you intend to grant. A prompt saying “read only” guides the assistant but does not reduce the connection's permissions. [Understand access and approvals](/mcp/permissions.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Make a useful first request

Ask:

> Use Meet Alto to read my workspace name and tell me which setup steps are complete and which remain. Use read operations only. If you cannot access something, explain what failed. Do not change settings or send anything.

Confirm that the returned workspace is the one you intended. A saved connection or a list of tools is not enough: the assistant must successfully read your workspace.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What can I ask next?

Start with a specific task and the relevant account or resource:

* “List my connected accounts and tell me which need attention.”
* “List my draft campaigns. Do not activate or change them.”
* “Show me the knowledge sources in this workspace.”

Some requests need additional permissions, especially on older connections. [Review how access works](/mcp/permissions.md) before approving them. For actions, ask the assistant to explain the proposed change before you confirm it.

The [tool reference](/mcp/reference.md) lists documented capabilities. Direct inbox sending and moderation, billing changes, team administration and broader integration management are not included in this MCP release.

## If the connection fails

Reload the AI app's tools or start a new session, then repeat the workspace read. If it still fails, use [MCP troubleshooting](/mcp/troubleshooting.md) instead of repeatedly recreating the connection.

## Choose your first workflow

Try [updating a knowledge answer](/mcp/recipes/knowledge.md), [preparing and testing an agent](/mcp/recipes/agent.md), or a [read-only workspace review](/mcp/recipes.md). Each workflow explains what to check before moving on.
